Roadwise

Initiated by the Lake Grace Police the Roadwise Committee was initially set up in 2000.
The group is made up of representatives from the Shire, Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade, School, Hospital, Main Roads, Child Health and other interested community members with support from Road Safety Officer Rodney Thornton.  The Lake Grace Community Resource Centre provides secretarial and treasurer support.  The group meet every second month and work toward alleviating road safety concerns within the town and Shire.

Over the past 15 years the group have been involved with organising:
  • Driver education for youth (Kids in Cars)
  • Blessing of the Roads
  • White Ribbon campaign
  • Education for the movement of oversized farm equipment
  • Postage of Department of Transport's 'A Guide to the Movement of Towed Agricultural Implements in Western Australia' booklet to every farmer within the Shire of Lake Grace.
  • Wildlife awareness signage
  • Disabled parking at local shopping centre
  • Campaigning for improved footpaths within community of Lake Grace
  • 'Where am I?', education on utilising your GPS to confirm your exact location in case of an emergency
  • Gopher education and maintenance workshop
  • Driver Reviver
  • Road safety education campaign via the Great Southern Colts Carnival

Currently the group are working toward:
  • educating the local community on parking and how their actions affect others
  • static road safety campaign via signage at the sporting pavilion

Anyone can be a member of Roadwise.
